Purpose: The Hero of the Highway program is intended to provide recognition for those professional drivers and others, within the Fenway family, who go beyond their everyday jobs and accomplish good deeds, ranging from random acts of kindness such as helping a stranded motorist to acts of extreme heroism such as pulling someone from a burning vehicle or administering CPR. So often, these acts of courtesy and kindness happen in the dark of night or the isolation of rural highway.
Eligibility: Applicants must be an employee of or an independent contractor to a transportation or logistics portfolio company of Fenway Partners.
Application: An employee or independent contractor must be nominated for Hero of the Highway recognition by a company representative or the general public. Applications are available by clicking here.
Selection: Recipients will be chosen by the Board of Trustees of the Open Road Foundation and any funds/recognition will be dispersed purely at the discretion of the Open Road Foundation.
First Hero of the Highway Honorees
The Open Road Foundation honored the husband and wife team of Steve and Kim Cooper of Panther Expedited at the first recipients of the Hero of the Highway award. Below, Marc Kramer of Fenway Partners presents the Coopers with a jacket and watch along with a check for $1,000. The Coopers saved the life of a fellow professional driver by pulling him from a burning vehicle.
Coach America's Brian Andrews Honored as Hero of the Highway
Brian Andrews, a dispatcher with Coach America in San Francisco, was honored recently as a Hero of the Highway for contributing a kidney to a co-worker. Brian had worked at Coach for only a matter of weeks before offering the donation to Theresa Waters despite not knowing Theresa prior to his arrival at Coach. Both Brian and Theresa are back at work. Four RoadLink Employees Honored as Heroes of the Highway
Four employees of RoadLink/GPS were honored June 25 in Harrisburg, PA for their efforts to rescue and revive a driver involved in an accident on the Norfolk Southern railyard in Harrisburg. The honorees (front row) include Robert Kennedy, Mike Dressler, Donn White and Isaias (Juni) Soto. Pictured on the back row are Marc Kramer (Fenway Partners/Open Road Foundation), John DeHol (Regional Safety Manager RoadLink) and Jeff Rodgers (Director of Operations and Maintenance RoadLink/GPS).
