NEW YORK, NY, September 22, 2008 – The Open Road Foundation today announced that Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S), through its business solutions provider Corporate Communications Group (CCG), has become the first major external contributor to The Open Road Foundation. The Open Road Foundation, launched in August 2008 by Fenway Partners, a leading middle market private equity firm with more than two dozen investments in transportation and logistics companies, is a non-profit organization which provides victim assistance and supports educational and career development programs for the employees and professional independent contractor drivers of the transportation and logistics companies within the Fenway portfolio as well as their dependents.
Fenway Partners and Sprint recently signed a three-year master services agreement for wireless and wireline services. Through this strategic partnership, Sprint will provide wireless solutions and telecommunications services tailored to the transportation industry, including the creation of custom web portals for each Fenway portfolio company that will allow employees, family members and contractors to access Sprint’s latest wireless technology and manage telecommunications on the web. As part of this agreement, Sprint has made an initial contribution to The Open Road Foundation and will continue to make donations for each individual line ordered via the portals.
“We are extremely proud of our involvement with The Open Road Foundation and are honored to have the opportunity to support such a unique organization that provides much needed assistance to the families of the transportation industry,” said Jared Lerner, President of CCG. “We are also pleased to have expanded our relationship with Fenway Partners so that we are able to provide its portfolio companies with increased service offerings and the ability to leverage purchasing power in order to help them run their businesses better. We look forward to developing our relationship with Fenway as we continue to give back to the community.”
Bill Webb, President of The Open Road Foundation and an operating executive at Fenway Partners, commented, “We are incredibly grateful for Sprint’s generosity in this venture and are delighted to be able to deepen our supplier relationship with them as well. We’re excited that they share our enthusiasm for this unique organization, which we believe will greatly benefit our transportation and logistics companies, their employees and professional independent contractor drivers, their families, and the communities in which they operate.”
Additional funding for The Open Road Foundation will be provided in the form of contributions from Fenway’s portfolio companies, their suppliers, and other individuals and companies that support those in the trucking and logistics industry.
